Joining Requirements

There are a few simple steps involved in joining the Boy Scouts of America. The first step is to:

MEET THE AGE REQUIREMENTS

Be a boy who has completed the fifth grade or is 11 years old, or has earned the Arrow of Light Award but is under 18 years old.

The second step is to find a Boy Scout Troop that you would like to join. Contacting the Old Hickory Council, BSA is a great way to find a Troop near where you live. Also, they have applications for joining and the latest copy of the Boy Scout Handbook.

Visit the troop [two or three if you like]. Then, once you decide on which one to join,

COMPLETE A BOY SCOUT APPLICATION AND HEALTH HISTORY SIGNED BY YOUR PARENT OR GUARDIAN and take it to the next Troop meeting.

Then after completing a few simple tasks like tying a square knot and learning how to give the Scout sign, you'll be on your way to becoming a Boy Scout.
