BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Lou Granirer attended the University of Florida and graduated in 1996 with a bachelors of science degree in microbiology. He attended Life University, where he received his doctor of chiropractic degree in 2001. He has completed postgraduate study in applied kinesiology, applied nutrition, flexion-distraction, extremity adjusting, chinese herbal medicine, diversified adjusting techniques, low back case management, whiplash management, sacro-occipital technique, nutrition response testing, chiroyoga and trigger point therapy. Dr. Lou Granirer was involved in a study with Life University to assess the effect of chiropractic care on patients with HIV. The study found a 48% average increase in cd4 cells (immune system cells) among the participants as compared to a control group. Dr. Granirer volunteers with great organizations like the Multiple Sclerosis Society, GMHC, and was one of the first chiropractors at the world trade center site treating emergency worker personnel.
Why did I become a chiropractor? In 1995, I suffered from a weightlifting injury to my right shoulder. I tried conventional medical treatment, which included anti-inflammatories and cortisone shots. My shoulder did not improve. A friend recommended that I see his chiropractor. My shoulder pain disappeared within three weeks of my initial office visit. Within 5 weeks I was able to return in full capacity to participating in all the activities that I love. The injury that I sustained to my shoulder was the catalyst for my respect and entry into this healing profession.
Why do I incorporate nutrition response testing and other modalities into my practice?
In 2005, I started to experience fatigue and floating symptoms throughout my body. I would treat one symptom it would go away and than another would appear. I didn't understand why I was having any symptoms considering I was eating well, getting adjusted, receiving acupuncture and energy work, doing yoga, meditating, and living a "healthy" lifestyle. I decided to take a seminar on nutrition response testing. At this seminar a participant performed nutrition response testing on me. He found that I had heavy metal toxicity (mercury- from eating alot of fish) and parasites (presumably from sushi). I started to take detoxification supplements and was feeling like a new person in weeks. I was excited about the way I felt and knew that this technique was something I wanted to use in practice.
The reason I use multiple modalities is because I believe it is important to have multiple "tools" in my "toolbox". A very wise practitioner once told me that if all that you have is a hammer than everthing looks like a nail.
What sets Dr. Lou Granirer apart from other chiropractors? 1- He spends more time with patients. A patient needs more than a 5 minute treatment to get better in the quickest and most efficient way possible. 2- He uses soft tissue manipulation, which includes treatment of muscles, tendons, and ligaments. This allows for injuries to heal faster and a patient to maintain their adjustment for a longer period of time. 3- He fosters a caring and communicative relationship with all of his patients. The cornerstone of healing is the energy exchange between doctor and patient. 4- He uses a holistic approach. Simply put the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The notion of the mind/body/spirit connection is taken seriously and respected. 5- He sees health as a state of optimum physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being, not just the absence of disease and symptoms. 6- He emphasizes the maintenance of health and prevention of disease. 7- He has a dedicated yoga practice and an exercise regimen, which has given him a greater understanding of the needs of his patients that are yogis and avid exercisers. 8- He is a Reiki practitioner, which has allowed him a greater understanding and intuition while working with the subtle energies of the body. 9- He uses the nutrition response testing technique to determine underlying nutritional deficits and toxicity in the body. |
