CDAM'S FIFTH ANNUAL TRIAL PRACTICE COLLEGE

The Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan (CDAM) announces its Fourth Annual Trial Practice College, August 22 - 27, 2008, to be held at the state of the art courtroom facilities at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan.The Trial Practice College offers a golden opportunity to participate in a low-cost week long training program, which will facilitate the sharing of practical trial experience by seasoned veterans and promote zealous defense advocacy. The participants will not only learn through lectures by nationally recognized trial lawyers on each stage of the trial, but will also apply what they have learned in daily small group training sessions. Under the instruction of the workshop faculty, the participants will engage in individual performances and receive feedback and analysis from the work shop faculty. The course materials involve a criminal trial and will include relevant discovery, pleadings and exhibits. Participants will be provided materials in advance, but will have the opportunity to prepare for each phase of the trial in the evenings, after hearing the lectures. The experience of these types of training colleges cannot be underestimated, spending a week in small groups and preparing during the evenings for the next day’s program with others, offers most-valuable camaraderie and training. The program is geared to change not only your methods and style of practice, but your outlook on your clients and career and your life.

The Trial College is planned by CDAM's Educational Committee and is financially supported by registration fees and a grant from the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards. The grant is administered by the State Appellate Defender's Office's Criminal Defense Resource Center (CDRS), which provides support services to criminal defense attorneys (www.sado.org).

Key personnel on the project included F. Randall Karfonta (CDAM's Education Director), Dawn Van Hoek (SADO Deputy Director and CDRC Director), Bill Moy(CDRC Coordinator), and Sheila Dean Connors (Administrative Assistant).

The cost of the college includes all registration fees, course materials, hotel accomadations at the Raddison Hotel - downtown Lansing, and most meals, except for dinner. Cost for attendees is $900.00 for double accomodations and $1,025.00 for a single accomodations. The attendees will also earn 28 CLE credit hours.
