James Broadnax, Jim created Recycle Buying Power first and foremost out of concern for the future of public schools. Although Recycle Buying Power is a perfect fundraising tool for any community or non-profit organization, it was Jim’s belief that schools can stay strong and vibrant by tapping into the wealth of the on-line economy that got the program rolling.
That’s no accident. Education has long been a major priority for Jim. Simply put, education is what allowed a kid from rural Alabama whose first job was picking cotton at a pay rate of three cents a pound to become a successful General Electric manager, an information systems innovator, a college professor and a computer industry entrepreneur. Jim worked to put his sister through college before earning his own undergraduate degree in night school. He went on to earn an MBA from Cambridge College. After learning and then teaching helicopter engine maintenance in the Army, Jim went on to a 21 year career as a manager and team leader for General Electric. At GE, Jim was involved in the servicing and training of engines used in US Army helicopters, Navy aircraft, and the Boeing 747. He was charged with leading the team that trained manufacturers and airlines in engine maintenance and oversaw vital upkeep on those engines. Jim taught computer technology and Information Technology courses at Northeastern University for nine years. He went on to create Bear Computer Systems. Recognizing the emerging power of the on-line economy, Jim created Recycle Buying Power as a mechanism for allowing schools and other community services to tap into the growing internet retailing sector as a funding source. Jim’s vision to was to create a platform that would allow communities to stop fighting losing battles to keep consumers involved in local economies despite the convenience and price incentives of on-line shopping. Recycle Buying Power does just that, using the established systems of the on-line economy. In short, referral fees (the same mechanism that earns hundreds of millions each year for Google) to generate funds for schools, communities and non-profits. Jim believes that by offering a simple tool for harnessing the revenue generating power of the internet, he can help communities and their schools position themselves to thrive in the emerging economy of the 21st century. With Recycle Buying Power, Jim is working to ensure that kids now and in the future will have the opportunity to succeed in school and in life just as he has done. |
